First European Pyramid come to Birmingham
Bosnian American archaeologist Semir Osmanagic, who discovered the first ancient pyramids in Europe, is coming to Birmingham as part of his European Tour to disseminate these new findings. Osmanagic has discovered what’s thought to be the first pyramids on the European continent in a small town of Visoko in Bosnia. A businessman and part-time archaeologist who left Bosnia for Texas 15 years ago to make his fortune in the oil industry described how on a trip back home, something caught his eye: ‘The first thing I noticed was the peculiar shape of that hill. It had the perfect shape, the perfect geometry of the pyramid.’ So he got workers to start digging. What they found was a structure they believe may be an ancient pyramid — a Bosnian Pyramid which is bigger than the famous pyramids of Egypt. ‘This is the biggest civilizational complex ever built on the face of the planet’ he said.

Research started in April 2006 and so far it has highlighted some interesting facts. According to Osmanagic, who has spent the last 15 years studying the pyramids of Latin America, if you connect the tops of all three pyramids — the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon, the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun and the Bosnian Pyramid of the Dragon — they form a perfect equilateral triangle. Apparently, thermal imaging shows man-made structures in the valley that he claims are made of ancient concrete blocks. ‘We have already dug out stone blocks which I believe are covering the pyramid. We found a paved entrance plateau and discovered underground tunnels.’ he said.

Osmanagic is focusing his research underground, on the site’s tunnels, during the winter. In the meantime, over 20,000 enthusiastic tourists are flocking to visit Bosnian Pyramids daily and buy trinkets, eat Bosnian Pyramid pizza and Bosnian Pyramid cake.

Interested to find out more? Osmanagic is giving a free talk on his findings so far at the Midlands Art Centre (MAC) on 2nd March at 6pm. Tickets are limited and available from Bosnia UK Network on 0121 772 3052 or at the door.
